Member Recruitment
Each school has its own cultural atmosphere and the club mentor is the best judge of how to recruit girls at each location. At some schools the girls have recruited their own mentor with great success.
Mentor considerations of GirlsMatter Club:
- First step is to obtain permission from the school’s administration to start a GirlsMatter Club on campus
- Plan what you are going to say to promote membership
- Meeting Place and time (afterschool or lunch time depending on school scheduling)
- Number of girls in the group
- Diversity is an asset in developing your club
Possible ideas to recruit:
- Personal contact with the girls
- Recommendations from fellow teachers, principle, guidance
Counselor, Child Study Team, nurse and school secretary.
- Develop your own letter of participation inviting girls by describing the GirlsMatter Club
- Post Flyers
- Morning announcements/ School newspaper
- Hold an informational meeting about the club
Parent request
It is essential that the Mission statement and Guiding Principle from the GirlsMatter Constitution be understood by the mentor when recruiting.
